Stop moaning about hypermasculinity

Today - hypermasculinity and why it is always raised, whereas hyperfemininity is not.

Disclaimer : hyperfemininity IS a thing.

First of all, as we all know, the word ‘hyper’ suggests something being amplified, usually to an unnatural extent.

Now hypermasculinity, involves masculinity on steroids. Unfortunately, because we have learnt to associate masculinity to dominance, strength (or rather, lack of weakness), and power, an amplifying of those things results into aggressive traits. If a man should not cry, a real strong man definitely will find a more domineering way to express his emotions. This can of course lead to violence or a justification of abuse with ‘I am the dominant figure anyway, so I am a predator’. Key word before you pipe up - ‘can’.

Now hyperfemininity, considering we’ve learnt to associate femininity to passive traits, infantilisation, weakness and dependence on men, leads to women acting more delicate, more passive, more child-like. And while this can and undoubtedly does cause great harm to their own person, its very concept is a polar opposite to aggression and the harming of others, because the woman is meant to be fragile.

What you must understand is that speaking of hypermasculinity isn’t an attack on men, or on what they perceive ‘makes them male’. It is denouncing the way misconstruing and amplifying those traits can lead them to harm themselves, and others.

And if you really did care about what hyperfemininity is doing to people, you’d raise the issue of girls willingly entering and staying in abusive relationships out of belief that’s how it should be, not acting upon their full potential (in any aspect of life) out of self-infantilisation, enabling and encouraging toxic behaviour in men around them and all sorts of other crap that is making them hurt etc.

Whipping it out solely to invalidate people’s constant ‘moanings’ about hypermasculinity, something that does kill men and women, is pointless. It isn’t tit for tat because nobody’s fighting, and even if it were, the effects and concepts are not the same to even do a trade off in the first place.
